Japan’s Mitsui and Smelting plans to increase its second-half zinc production by over 6,000t, the company has said.

Meeting the target of producing 112,900t of zinc between October and March would result in a 6.5% increase on the same period last year.

The firm has already witnessed a 4.3% rise in zinc production in the first half of this year.

But Mitsui and Smelting’s plans for gold remain cautious, with targets to produce 8,500t between October and March – 1,200t less than the results recorded in the 09/10 financial year.
