Rio Tinto said its Bunder project in India is the world’s biggest diamond discovery in a decade.

Rio Tinto head of exploration Eric Finlayson said there have been few diamond discoveries in recent years and that the Bunder deposit is one of the biggest.

Finlayson added the project is in a pre-feasibility study and a major drilling programme is under way to define the resource, reports Bloomberg.

The Bunder deposit, located about 311 miles from Delhi in the state of Madhya Pradesh, has an estimated inferred resource of 37 million metric tons at a grade of 0.7 carats per ton for 27.4 million carats.
