Members of South Africa’s National Union of Mineworkers have started a strike at the Zondereinde mine owned by Northam Platinum.
Northam said 80% of its employees have been on strike at Zondereinde since the night of 5 September.
The miners are demanding a pay rise of 15% while the company is offering an 8% rise.
Northam said strike revenue losses are expected to be around $1.2m a day.
