Workers at Newmont Mining’s Indonesian unit are striking at the Batu Hijau gold and copper mine.
About 300 workers downed tools at midnight on 2 August over pay and are expected to continue the strike for nine days.
Newmont Nusa Tenggara said it would take legal action against a province ruling ordering the company to pay $14.1m of overtime to workers covering the period between June 2008 and June 2010.
Production at the mine on Sumbawa Island in eastern Indonesia remains unaffected so far.
Newmont Nusa Tenggara is partly owned by a venture belonging to PT Bumi Resources and three local administrations in West Nusa Tenggara.
