Simmer and Jack Mines has resumed operations at its six Buffelsfontein gold mine shafts in South Africa after the deaths of three miners in an accident earlier this month.

Underground mining stopped at the mines on 6 May after a fall of ground occurred at the mine’s Number 5 shaft, killing the miners.

The mine, in South Africa’s north-west province, was subject to an ongoing safety audit.

Simmer and Jack Mines CEO Nico Schoeman said the mine was found to be in a satisfactory state by the Department of Mineral Resources and the company is now focusing on meeting production and safety targets.
