Saudi Arabian Mining and Alcoa have awarded three contracts totalling $453m for an integrated aluminium project.

The Fluor Corp and WorleyParsons joint venture won a $202m contract for the project’s supervision, engineering and procurement.

Fluor Corp also won another $177m contract for engineering works, and the procurement and supervision of the construction of a rolling mill.

Fluor Arabia, a Saudi affiliate of Fluor Corp, won a $74m contract for management of services, engineering works and supervision of the site.

The Ma’aden-Alcoa joint venture agreed in December to develop a $10.8bn integrated aluminium complex, which includes a bauxite mine, alumina refinery, aluminium smelter and a can sheet rolling mill.

First production from the aluminium smelter and rolling mill is expected in 2013, while first production from the mine and refinery is scheduled for 2014.
