Randgold said construction at its Tongon mine in the Ivory Coast is underway, with production expected to begin in October.

Rangold executive director Mark Bristow said the mine will be ready to produce 75,000oz of gold in 2010.

The mine will begin production of nearly 280,000oz of gold a year from 2011 to 2013.

The mine’s total output is estimated to be 2.84 million ounces during its projected 11-year life-span.

Currently, steel required for the first phase of the construction project has been produced and the final 1,400t are now being manufactured.
