Nine people have died in a Chinese mine, less than a week after an explosion at a mine killed 108.

According to local media reports, a gas explosion was to blame for the latest deaths at the south-western China coal mine.

It is the latest blight on the record of a coal mining sector that has suffered one of the poorest health and safety records in the world.

One miner is still missing at the mine, according to reports.

Meanwhile, the Zhenxing coal mine in Guizhou has been home to protests and allegations of overcrowding following Saturday’s accident.
