India’s Orissa State says it will terminate 482 licences held by mineral traders in a bid to eliminate irregularities in the mining sector.

The Orissa Government has also decided to toughen its position against mining undertaken outside leased mines, according to the Press Trust of India.

The task force of the Orissa Government has been looking into the operation of 2,000 miners there.

Last week it suspended the operation of 69 manganese ore, iron ore and limestone mines it says were operating illegally or breaching rules.
