Konkola Copper Mine’s (KCM) workers in Zambia disrupted mining operations at the Nchanga open pit mine’s tailings leach plant and concentrator as part of industrial action on 10 November.
KCM spokesman Rahur Kharkar said miners were demanding an update on wage talks between unions and management, according to Reuters.
“Some workers started throwing stones and police had to be called in,” Kharkar said.
“We are still assessing how this affected production but the smelter has been running normally.”
The Mine Workers Union of Zambia (MUZ) president Rayford Mbulu said the union would conduct negotiations with management.
