Outotec to Provide Pueblo Copper Recovery Plant

Mining technology provider Outotec has signed a $23.6m contract with Pueblo Viejo Dominicana, jointly owned by Goldcorp and Barrick Gold, for the supply of a copper recovery plant. The copper recovery facility will be used by Pueblo Viejo's gold mine located in the Dominican Republic.

Mining technology provider Outotec has signed a $23.6m contract with Pueblo Viejo Dominicana, jointly owned by Goldcorp and Barrick Gold, for the supply of a copper recovery plant.

The copper recovery facility will be used by Pueblo Viejo’s gold mine located in the Dominican Republic.

Outotec and Barrick Gold have jointly developed the copper Sulfide precipitation process, which will be used in the Pueblo Viejo project.

The application uses Outotec’s OKTOP reactor technology and Paques THIOTEQ bioprocess as hydrogen sulphide source, the company said.

According to the contract, Outotec will provide engineering, proprietary and process machinery, instrumentation and automation in addition to supervisory services and spare parts.

The facility is supplied as prefabricated skid-mounted units, reducing site work and enabling quick track execution. The units will be pre-tested at the workshops to allow safety of the operations.

The new facility is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2011.
