Aker Solutions has won a $143m engineering, procurement and construction management services contract for the Toromocho mining and processing ore unit located near Lima, in Morococha District, Peru.

Aluminum Corporation of China, through its subsidiary Minera Chinalco Peru, will manage the project.

The project, which has a total installed cost of $2.2bn, involves the development of a huge open pit mine followed by ore processing at a daily rate of 117,200t to generate copper concentrates.

Aker has already finished the basic engineering and feasibility study for the project.

Expertise and resources from the company’s offices in Arizona, Chile, Peru and China will play a key role in project delivery.

Toromocho is expected to generate 225,000t of copper per annum. Silver will be derived from the copper concentrate and molybdenum tri-oxide will be generated as a key by-product of the processing.
