Zimbabwe’s government has shortlisted international firms to partner in mining diamonds in the Marange fields, Reuters reports.

The Marange fields are the focus of a dispute between the government and African Consolidated Resources, which held a claim on the area until it was revoked in 2007.

Zimbabwe mines minister Obert Mpofu told Reuters the government will seek to control a 50% stake in Marange diamond projects.

“Some companies have been shortlisted, but because of the distractions that investors to Zimbabwe have been facing, these companies have said they would rather keep the negotiations under tight wraps,” Mpofu told Reuters.
