South Africa’s gold production in June dropped by 12.2% year-on-year, according to Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).

The country registered a 4.2% decline in the gold output when compared with the first quarter of 2009, the research agency said.

The country’s total mining production dropped 7.3% in June against the same month a year ago, with non-gold production declining by 6.4%, Stats SA figures said.

Total seasonally adjusted value of mineral sales of R17.9bn for the three months ended May fell by 0.8% compared with the previous three months, due to a 2.5% decrease in non-gold minerals sales.
