Eastern Platinum said its subsidiary Barplats Mines will terminate contracts with two mining contractor companies following an illegal sit in by employees at the Crocodile River Mine (CRM) in South Africa.

In a statement, Eastern said it has brought charges against “those individuals employed by the contractor companies who were engaged in the illegal activities specifically in relation to safety and health transgressions, and to the holding of other underground personnel against their will, as documented by the South African Police Services”.

The contracts will end with immediate effect and will affect production for a short period, Eastern Platinum said.

The company plans to utilise all its 1,500 CRM employees to undertake mining activities at the site, with more to be added in future.
