South Africa’s National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has declared a dispute with Impala Platinum after negotiations with the company failed on 23 June.
NUM rejected Impala’s 6.5% wage increase offer in response to its demand for a 20% wage hike.
The issue will be referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and failure to find a suitable solution could lead to the issuing of a certificate of non-resolution, NUM negotiator at Impala Eddie Majadibodu said.
“We totally reject this kind of harassment and are referring the matter to the CCMA,” Majadibodu said.
