Barrick Gold has made two gold discoveries at Red Hill and Goldrush on the Cortez property in Nevada, US.
The discoveries are located on highly prospective ground, 6km south-east of the Cortez Hills mine and 24km south-east of the Pipeline mine, and are geologically similar in style to Cortez Hills and Goldstrike mines.
An initial drill programme carried out by Barrick at Red Hill has identified carbonate stratigraphy.
With this result, the firm conducted further drilling 2km south along the projected strike, which intersected the targeted horizon and confirmed the discovery of a new zone of mineralisation known as Goldrush.
Barrick Gold’s senior vice-president Rob Krcmarov said that the mineralisation in both deposits remains open in multiple directions, and that an aggressive drill programme is underway to define the limits of the system as well as upgrade the resources.
