Golden Star Resources has resumed mining activity at the Pampe Deposit on the southern end of the Akropong Trend in Ghana.

The company has also commenced an exploratory drilling programme that will aim to increase Pampe’s proven and probable reserves of 191,000oz of gold.

Initial mining at the deposit will involve accessing ore below the existing pit floor by cutting back waste.

Mine production is expected to generate up to 75,000t of ore a month, starting next month.

In addition, the Bogoso oxide processing plant is currently being upgraded and is expected to be re-commissioned by January 2012.

The plant has a production capacity of 1.5Mtpa.

Production from the pit, in combination with Bogoso / Prestea mine tailings, is expected to increase the Bogoso / Prestea mine’s overall production by approximately 80,000-90,000oz of gold in 2012.
