The National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has received a mining lease from the Union Coal Ministry for the Utkal coal block in Orissa, India.

The block covers an area of 0.8km² and has estimated coal reserves of 70Mt, reports the Economic Times.

The coal from the block will be supplied for the two units of NALCO’s captive power plant, which powers its nearby aluminium smelter.

NALCO will sign the mining lease deed with the state government, and will commence operations in the allocated mining area on receipt of necessary permissions from the Forest Department under the Forest Conservation Act.
