China’s state administration of work safety (SAWS) is planning to introduce national standards for safety technologies used in the country’s coal mines.

The four standards will relate to the prevention of coal mine accidents, such as methane gas blasts, underground floods and shaft collapses, by using high-technology polymeric materials.

Polymeric materials are a group of chemical compounds that are used for functions related to the prevention of mine floods, shaft collapses and fire accidents, reports China Daily.

At the end of 2010, there were 30 producers of polymeric materials, but a lack of national manufacturing standards have raised concerns among the industry.
