Botswana Diamonds has started a 60 to 90-day exploration work programme on its diamond reconnaissance licence, located to the south of the Mobilong diamond field in Cameroon, to identify the presence and extent of diamond-bearing host rock.

The work will include detailed geological mapping with the help of traverses and cut-lines on a regular grid, followed by excavation of observation pits and the collection of geochemical and rock samples for further analysis.

If the work is successful, the firm will implement a limited drilling and trenching / pitting exercise to further define the scope and extent of potentially diamondiferous rock sequences.

The work area is located in a remote part of Cameroon where the dense tropical rainforest can create logistical problems and restrict the extent to which remote sensing techniques can be used to guide the exploration.
