Brigus Gold is planning to start the production of over 250t of gold a day from its Black Fox underground mine in Timmins, Canada, by 15 March 2011.

The underground ore production from new mining stopes is expected to increase the production to an average of 800t a day by the second quarter of this year and to 1,100t a day by the fourth quarter of 2011.

The firm has completed construction of ventilation and services including the secondary egress manway and commissioning of related underground services like fans, heaters, compressed air and power supply.

Brigus Gold vice-president and chief operating officer Richard Allan said the ongoing commissioning is expected to accelerate the underground development.

“We are nearing completion and commissioning of the new portal and ramp to allow commercial production to be achieved by the end of March 2011, ” Allan said.
