The Australia-based Monadelphous Group has secured a $260m contract from Rio Tinto to construct an iron ore project in Pilbara.
As per the terms of the contract, Monadelphous will supply and install the structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation equipment required to set up the Western Turner Brockman iron ore plant.
The project supports Rio Tinto's strategy to enhance iron ore capacity to 360 million tonnes a year by 2015.
Monadelphous managing director Rob Velletri stated, "We are very pleased to have been awarded another important Rio Tinto iron ore project and to continue our long standing involvement in the expansion of Rio Tinto's Pilbara iron ore operations."
The major iron ore construction contract associated with Rio Tinto's Western Turner Brockman project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2013.
Located 20km north-west of Tom Price, the Western Turner Syncline has a current capacity of 6 million tonnes a year, estimated to increase to 15 million tonnes per annum this year.
