Gold Fields has said that workers at its South Deep mine in South Africa are planning to strike, following a dispute over employee-management relations.

In a statement, Gold Fields said the dispute revolves around a failure to reach an agreement over demands from National Union of Mineworkers to participate in certain decision-making processes, which the company views primarily as a management prerogative.

These processes include the recruitment and selection of middle and senior managers, and tender and procurement practices.

The company said it will seek an interdict against the proposed strike and has made necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the strike.
