US-based Massey Energy will idle production at its 92 underground coal producing sections on 29 October to provide safety training to its miners.

The training will also include reviews of past violations and emphasise best practices.

Massey Energy chairman and CEO Don Blankenship said despite training, there have been instances at Massey where miners did not follow what they had been trained to do.

"The idling of production reinforces our philosophy that safety is first and production is second," Blankenship said.
