Australian copper mining company Great Australian Operations in Cloncurry, Queensland, has been fined $135,000 for causing damage to a creek. Brisbane Magistrates Court ordered the fine in addition to directing the company to monitor Coppermine Creek's recovery for the next four year

Australian copper mining company Great Australian Operations in Cloncurry, Queensland, has been fined $135,000 for causing damage to a creek.

Brisbane Magistrates Court ordered the fine in addition to directing the company to monitor Coppermine Creek's recovery for the next four years.

The Department of Environment and Resource Management found that 2km of the creek had been contaminated by the mine after stormwater leaked from a burst pipe, killing aquatic life, according to ABC.
