Harmony Suspends Bambanani Mine Following Tremor

Operations at Harmony Gold-owned Bambanani mine in South Africa remained suspended after two employees became trapped underground following an earth tremor.

Harmony said a tremor hit the mine on 27 September, which injured four workers and trapped two others.

A spokesman said rescue workers are making their way towards the place where the two workers are believed to be trapped.

The company is yet to assess how much production would be lost during the mine closure.

The mine, located in Free State province, produced 1,170kg of gold during the April-June quarter.
