Alliance Resources Partners has restarted coal production at its Pattiki mine near Carmi City in White County, Illinois, US, following a suspension of operations.

Coal production was suspended in May following the failure of a vertical belt system used to convey raw coal out of the mine.

Prior to the suspension, Pattiki operated eight continuous mining shifts producing approximately 210,000t of coal a month during 2010.

With the resumption of limited mining operations the mine is expected to produce 83,000t of coal a month with three continuous mining shifts.

The Pattiki mine produces high-sulphur coal from the Illinois No 6 coal seam utilising continuous mining units and room-and-pillar techniques.
