Aquarius Platinum does not expect to lose output following a mine-by-mine safety review in South Africa of its two largest operations.

Aquarius spokesman Gavin Mackay said implementing further safety initiatives could increase costs but is unlikely to cut production, reports Reuters.

The company is working with an international mining consultant to review its mine designs.

Last week South Africa issued an order to reduce the size of mineable rock panels and leave bigger support pillars behind to improve safety after an accident killed five miners at an Aquarius-operated mine this month.

Aquarius said shaft 4 of the Marikana mine remains suspended following the accident two weeks ago.
