African Queen has started the first phase of exploration at the Rongo Gold Field in Migori district, Kenya.

The $300,000 programme will include sampling, geological mapping and airborne geophysical studies, the company said in a statement.

African Queen, a subsidiary of Pan African Mining, has received approval from the Kenyan Government for the project and will assess the viability of gold deposits in the area.

The company will identify potential gold bearing and quartz-veined fault structures, which will be drilled later this year to establish grade, thickness and depth.
