Nine miners have died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a coal mine owned by Dongsheng Mining in central China's Henan province.

Coal Mining Bureau deputy director Liu Xianghua said rescuers found the bodies, according to China's official news agency Xinhua.

An initial investigation revealed that excessive amounts of carbon monoxide were detected in the mine by the safety staff while two miners were working underground.
