Diamond-miner Trans Hex has made a one-year wage agreement with South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers.

The mineworkers have secured wage increases of between 9% and 10%, depending on work grades.

The union initially demanded a 12% wage increase and lodged a dispute at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.

The wage increases will be backdated as from the beginning of April.
