Three employees of South African miner Simmer & Jack Mines have died after the ground fell at the Buffelsfontein gold mine.

The miners were engaged in a routine inspection in the Number Five Shaft on level 27 at the time of the fall, on May 4.

The shaft remains closed pending an investigation into the incident, the company said.
