DRDGOLD's gold production rose 4% for the third quarter to 62,404oz, and the company now plans to begin exploration for gold in Zimbabwe.
The company has begun preparations for an initial 28-week programme of exploration of the Leny claims in Zimbabwe, where Chizim Investments is also a partner.
During the exploration limited mining will take place and the recovered gold will be used to make up for the exploration costs.
In 2009, Chizim conducted limited exploration of two Leny veins, which showed grades varying between 5-25g of gold per ton.
DRDGOLD said the rise in higher output is mainly due to improved gold mining at its Blyvoor underground operations and production build-up at its Ergo mine.
