Leighton will provide mining services at the Toka Tindung gold project in Indonesia, under a $125m contract with Meares Soputan Mining and Tambang Tondano Nusajaya.

Under the six-year contract, Leighton Contractors Indonesia, a division of Leighton Asia, will provide a range of services including land clearing, drilling, civil works, excavating, loading, hauling and dumping of waste, selective mining and hauling of ore.

Toka Tindung gold mine, located approximately 35km to the north-east of Manado City, has multiple pits, with one main pit to the north and four smaller pits to the south.

The resources at Toka Tindung total 1.75 million ounces of gold of which 1.1 million ounces will be mined over the contract term.

The initial civil works at the mine will start in May and operations are expected to begin in July.

During operations, the rate of production is expected to reach two million tons of ore and six million bcm of waste per year.

The agreement lifts the four-year suspension contract with Leighton to work at Toka Tindung gold mine in Indonesia.
