BHP Billiton has hired Chris Campbell as the new president of its iron ore business in the place of Ian Ashby who will be the CEO of the Western Australia iron ore production joint venture (JV) with Rio Tinto.

Campbell's responsibilities will include iron ore growth opportunities outside Western Australia, the Nimba and the proposed Arcelor-Mittal JV in West Africa and Brazil-based Samarco iron ore operations.

Campbell will also be responsible for marketing the company's share of production with Rio and governance of the agreement through the Owners Council.
