Newmont Mining has increased radio communications at its Nevada-based open pit gold mine for better traffic management, computer aided dispatch and inventory tracking of its trucks, drills, loaders and other mining equipment.

Exalt Communications’ split-mount and indoor microwave radio system will also decrease the possibility of interference from radios at nearby mines.

Newmont senior communications technician Boyd Burden said the radio system will help Newmont operations to run 24/7 while minimising downtime by ensuring all equipment is meeting maximum use requirements.

"Exalt radio systems give us totally reliable operation, and that helps us keep all of our equipment running at peak efficiency," Burden said.
