Japan’s Mitsui Mining & Smelting has resumed operations at its Peru-based Pallca zinc mine following an increase in demand and strengthening metal prices.
Mitsui spokesman Yushi Sugiura said production was stopped in December 2008.
“We restarted operation at the Pallca mine from October,” Sugiura said.
The mine’s annual output capacity is 15,000 to 16,000t of zinc in concentrate.
Sugiura said that Pallca’s current production rate per day is 130t of ore compared to its daily output capacity of 500t.
