The Luanshya copper mines in Zambia will restart full capacity operations on 22 December, according to Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Quiangmin.

The mines closed following opposition to Chinese ownership in Zambia.

Zambian MP Chishimba Kambwili, however, overturned an earlier decision to oppose the acquisition.

Li said the Mazabuka-based Munali nickel mine, which was acquired by a Chinese firm, will restart operations in January 2010.

"This will create more job opportunities for local people, especially for Mazabuka area and Southern Province," Li said.
