BHP Billiton Iron Ore has awarded two contracts worth $58m to Kerman Contracting for its Rapid Growth Project 5 in the Pilbara region of Australia.

Under the first contract, Kerman will design and manufacture 40 conveyor modules that will enable high-level conveyors to transport ore to berths in an enclosed environment to decrease risk of dust and noise exposure.

The modules will be developed for BHP's port extension at Finucane Island.

Under the second contract, Kerman will develop the Ore Handling Plant 3 Non-Process Infrastructure industrial units located at the Yandi mine site.

The work involves construction of a fixed plant and heavy vehicle workshops, warehouse, vehicle refuelling and washdown units and site services.

Project work has already commenced and is scheduled to conclude by August next year.
