US firm Cliffs Natural Resources is pursuing approval for the development of a new iron ore deposit in Western Australia.

Cliffs has submitted a document to the Australian Government for environmental approval for development of the deposit.

The satellite iron ore mine at Windarling Range, part of the company's Koolyanobbing operation, will utilise existing infrastructure.

The development of the mine will not have an impact on threatened species at the project site, the company said.
