E.ON is expanding its US wind energy portfolio with the opening of the Stony Creek wind farm in western Pennsylvania on a site previous used as a mine.

The Stony Creek wind farm has been set up on the site of a former surface mine and comprises 35 General Electric turbines with an installed capacity of 53MW.

The wind farm will supply about 16,000 homes, according to the company.
