Kigezi Steel Company is now licensed to mine and process iron products for a $90m project in Uganda.
According to a NRM publication, Kigezi is currently working on the Muko iron ore project, which has 2.5 million tonnes of estimated reserves and is located in Butare in Kabale, western Uganda.
Inspector of mines David Sebaggala said Kigezi is currently in the process of obtaining the lease, according to Business Week.
“There are a number of stages to go through to develop the project,” Sebaggala said.
“When it is finished we expect the firm to embark on the mining and processing of iron products.”
