Kinross Gold will resume advanced gold exploration work at the Fruta del Norte (FDN) gold project in Ecuador's Zamora-Chinchipe province following authorisation from the Ecuadorian Ministry of Non-Renewable Natural Resources.

At FDN, Kinross will restart its drilling programme, which involves 20,000m drilling work, to back conclusion of a feasibility study.

Kinross will use four drills to carry out the programme, which is expected to last for six months.

The company expects to conclude a pre-feasibility study early next year.

Kinross president and CEO Tye Burt said the restart of the advanced exploration programme is an important development for the FDN project and for Ecuador's mining industry.

“We look forward to working closely with the government of Ecuador and local communities to advance the development of responsible mining at FDN,” Burt said.
