A1 Minerals said its Brightstar gold project near Laverton in Western Australia will pour its first gold by the end of the year.

The Australian gold miner has been exploring the Laverton mining camp since 2002 and over the past year increased the resource to 1.7 million ounces and declared 150,000oz proven reserve.

The company has also put in place a plant construction contract for a 300,000t-per-year unit, which is almost complete.

Mine stripping has also commenced on the initial mining target, the Beta deposit.

The operation will initially have a rated production rate of 30,000oz per year of gold and the head grade is projected to be more than 4 g/t.

The company controls 500km2 of exploration permits in the Laverton region, which has more than 30 million ounces of current mining reserves.
