Rio Tinto Iron Ore has awarded a A$85m construction contract to Australian engineering company Monadelphous Group for structural work at its Brockman 4 project in Western Australia.

The contract includes mechanical, structural and piping works for the supply, preassembly and erection of the dry processing unit.

Monadelphous managing director Rob Velletri said that the Brockman 4 development is part of the company's list of projects for Rio Tinto including recent work on the Cape Lambert and Dampier Port Phase B upgrades.

“This win reflects both our long-term relationship with Rio Tinto Iron Ore and our ability to safely deliver on large scale, engineering construction projects,” Velletri said.

Project work will start immediately with substantial completion scheduled for the third quarter of 2010.
