BHP Billiton has boosted total ore reserves at its South Australian Olympic Dam uranium and copper mine, The Australian reports.
Proven and probable ore reserves stood at 589 million tons as of 30 June with a copper grade of 1.81% and a uranium grade of 0.59kg/t, the news service said.
BHP intends on expanding the mine to improve yearly production to 19,000t of uranium, 750,000t of copper and 800,000oz of gold.
In the year ended 30 June, Olympic Dam generated 4,007t of uranium, 194,000t of copper and 108,039oz of gold.
The previous year's figures estimated reserves as being 473 million tons with grades of 0.6kg of uranium a ton and 1.86% copper.
The new reserve comprises 401 million tons of probable reserves and 188 million tons of proven reserves.
