Signature Metals has begun drilling at the Konongo gold project, located in Ghana's Ashanti Gold Belt.

The company has secured African Mining Services, a subsidiary of Ausdrill, to drill a 4,000m diamond core programme that will continue till the end of the year. A drill rig has already been mobilised to site.

Diamond core drilling will target extensions to high grade shoots intersected in earlier drilling at the Obenemase deposit.

Historical mining at the Obenemase deposit, which is both open pit and underground, generated 102,700oz of gold from one million tons of ore at a 8.17g/t gold recovered grade.

The Obenemase Deposit is estimated to comprise 2.38 million tons at 3.18g/t gold.

The company's goal is to develop the Konongo Gold Project to produce more than 100,000oz of gold per annum.
