Chile’s Antofagasta Announces Increase of Copper Production

Chilean miner Antofagasta said it is aiming to produce more than 500,000t of copper in 2010 and 700,000 to 750,000t of copper in 2011. The build of the Esperanza project and the expansion of the Los Pelambres mine are the main factors behind the increase in the production forecast,

Chilean miner Antofagasta said it is aiming to produce more than 500,000t of copper in 2010 and 700,000 to 750,000t of copper in 2011.

The build of the Esperanza project and the expansion of the Los Pelambres mine are the main factors behind the increase in the production forecast, Reuters reports.

The miner has forecast production of nearly 455,000t this year.

Antofagasta chief executive Marcelo Awad said that by 2011 the company should be at full production capacity.
