The Indian Government has imposed an import duty of up to 30% on aluminium products from China to safeguard the domestic market against cheap imports, the Business Standard reports.

The import duty is based on the feedback from the Directorate General of Safeguard in January following a petition from the local industry against cheap imports from China.

The revenue ministry announced a 12-14% duty on aluminium flat-rolled products and 25-30% on foils.

The duties will be effective from 23 March for two years, the newspaper said.
